A clean way to secure jobs in Broadmeadows

A NEW initiative is making a dent in Broadmeadows' notoriously high unemployment rate of 15.9per cent and helping Bhutanese refugees gain jobs.
Under the Banksia Gardens Community Centre's project
called Banksia Gardening and Cleaning, a group of six refugees has been offering gardening and cleaning services to to the housing estate's tenants.
They work part-time doing gardening and tidying tasks, including cutting grass and pruning, as well as domestic house cleaning.
The centre's community connections project manager, Nick Mac Hale, said so successful was the program that it was being expanded to the wider Broadmeadows area. He said the initiative provided refugees with a chance to work and earn a wage, while also acting as a "stepping stone" to future employment.

Sell one, and use the money to construct another house." Thanvi was very clearly being offered a bribe by a powerful politician to silence his editorial attacks against the ruling party.
But the early morning shock of that offer pales in comparison to the revelations of the Nira Radia tapes. "Journalists used to be corrupted earlier for personal gains but the lobbying for corporates we are seeing now is shameful," says Thanvi, former secretary general of the Editors Guild of India.
